I do not want to dedicate the resources to a web hosted database and the locally hosted options seem limited heavily. I have also researched a little on using a database. I have looked into using an XML file system to store the data and then load it as needed but I am unsure of the sort / filter capabilities without loading all 1,000 into memory at once which will take time and hog up resources. What I am looking for is a way of handling a huge amount of data in a sort able, filterable system that will run on a basic laptop locally. Latency and calculation times of less than 3 seconds are very acceptable as this system is turn based with a large amount of verbal communication. Giving an average of 32 bytes per attribute that makes almost 2GB of data to load! I also want to be able to return filtered data to the GM, such as a list of all enemies of a specific type, power level, habitat, etc. All stats are either integers, floats, or strings. Right now I am looking at around 1,000 different enemies with 64 attributes for each. I am using a server authoritative system so only the Game Master's instance (host) needs access directly to this data and it can hand the data to the Player instances (clients). Fantasy grounds 2 intances update#
The problem is that I need a large list of character data. Was there a chance in the last update to disallow multiple instances. I have a good rule set that is free use so I have all the data I need.
I am trying to create a game tool similar to role 20 or fantasy grounds but for a different game system. I have been tinkering with unity for about 2 years so I have a good grasp on basic programming. I have the general idea of what I want to do but I am running into an issue. I am working on a Table Top Role Playing Game tool and wanted some opinions.
